A Complete Beginner.

"A gret heeap of camera tackle - Duz tha want to buy em?"

This was how my son described the equipment he and his girlfriend had found when clearing her recently deceased fathers house prior to putting it on the housing market. I know very little about cameras other than the "point and press the button" type and these looked as if they were worth a bob or two!

Not wanting to look a "Nipscrat" (Yorkshire for tight fisted b*****d) and also not wanting to buy summat that is NFG, I contacted the secretary's of the two local Photography societies asking advice about the equipment. One said "Load of shite, get shut as soon as pos!, dunt offer owt an mek sure tha pays nowt forem" The other kind soul gave me a brief idea of what I had and suggested I had a professional valuation so I sent the lad with the tackle to the nearest Jessops Camera shop for "The Words"

The answer was that I had one good camera, one reasonable and the other ready for the next car boot but the rest of the equipment, lenses, cases, tripods etc were in good nick and an offer around £100.00 would be around the mark.

I have just got a digital camera, a Fuji FinePix A360. These are a lot easier to use than the older film type and I cannot fault the quality of the results. As I intend taking it on my walks etc. you never know what I'll find. This was a bit of a surprise though!

This is a coffin carved out of solid stone, you can see where the head is supported at the end. I had heard some giggles from the rest of the group as myself and a new couple to the group sat down for our lunch. Unbeknown to us we had sat on the coffin lid for our "snap" This is in the church grounds of Felkirk, West Yorkshire.
